You can drive on all of the tracks in time trial mode which is closer to a traditional rally experience. The pathfinder stages all feature steep hill climbs, narrow paths, and terrain that can easily roll your buggy over if you’re not careful.Īfter doing endless races, the gymkhana and pathfinder events offer some much-needed variety.Įven the rally raid events, which are the closest to traditional rally stages as they’re point-to-point tracks without any massive hills or big jumps, are still 12 car races.Īnyone who’s ever played a rally game has likely driven too fast, gone off-road and head-on into a tree – that isn’t possible in rally raid events since they’re still set up like purpose-built stages with barriers stopping you from going off track and hitting something or driving off the edge of a cliff. Pathfinder is the only event in the game’s career mode that has you drive on your own and try to get the finish in the quickest time possible. Gymkhana plays the same way it did in DiRT 3 as you have to score points in a time limit by doing donuts, 360 degree spins, drifts, jumps and smashing blocks. The only two events that aren’t races are gymkhana and the all-new pathfinder. That being said the sprint car is definitely a unique challenge as it needs to be driven in a totally different way to the other cars and you can get it to wheelie. The sprint car can only race around sprint oval circuits and the rallycross cars are quite restricted in the events they can do, but it still represents the most diverse car roster in a DiRT game.īut the more simplistic handling model, which is most comparable to DiRT 3 over any DiRT game that’s come since, means that the differences between how all the cars feel isn’t as profound as it is in the DiRT Rally games or even DiRT 4. While most of the events are races and it really won’t take long before you drive on the same tracks multiple times, you’re often changing between the car classes. Speaking of which, the vehicle variety is one of DiRT 5’s strongest aspects as there are some iconic rally cars from the 1980s and 1990s along with buggies, a Formula Off-Road and sprint car. There are eight different event categories although six of them follow the same premise, that you start at the back of the grid and have to work your way to the front by overtaking as many other drivers as possible.Įach event category is really just a circuit type – for example, ice breaker events are all standard races on a frozen lake and stampede tracks usually have a gap you have to jump over and can only be raced on with the bigger vehicles. They all have that common theme but the DiRT games have gone through an identity crisis with DiRT 3 being a thrills-over-realism rally game and it had a heavy focus on gymkhana.Īfter that came DiRT Showdown which was more of a destruction derby and banger racing game and then there was DiRT 4 which was a more accessible version of the DiRT Rally games.įor the fourth game in a row, there’s been a shift in direction as DiRT 5 is distinctly different from its predecessors.įor starters rallying is almost entirely removed as almost every event in the career mode is a lights to flag race against other cars, the only difference being some are circuit races and some are point-to-point. In recent years the DiRT series has split into two halves, with the DiRT Rally (DiRT Rally and DiRT Rally 2.0) spin-off games being focused on realistically depicting rally and rallycross while the main DiRT series (DiRT 4 and now DiRT 5) has been a more casual experience. If you're looking for a quick bronze unlock, there's a handful that rewards you for just trying out a mode or feature.Īs Dirt 5 won't have the ability to transfer saves from the current generation to the next generation, gamers have the potential to complete this list twice - once per generation.DiRT 5 is the latest in a long line of Codemasters’ produced rally games that can trace its lineage back to the Colin McRae Rally series.ĭespite that, DiRT 5 has very little in common with those games and isn’t even a rally game, it would be more accurate to describe it as an off-road racing game as conventional rallying isn’t really represented. If anything, the list can be seen as time-consuming as some of the metagame goals require pilots to earn up to $ 50 million, max level 10000, and cover XNUMX+ miles. In total, there are 21 trophies, including eight gold, six silver and six bronze. In fact, for such a big AAA title, we're shocked at how easy it seems to get the coveted platinum. The road to Dirt 5's release might have been a bit bumpy, but its list of trophies / achievements seems like a smooth ride.

Have added a few interesting entries to my wishlist this week, figured I would share: We screened Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It at Fantasia 2021. There’s crude humor and running gags plus lots of blood and crazy murders (and other deaths) along the way. If you enjoy horror comedies, then Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It is exactly the kind of movie that should work for you. In fact, the only other movie from Kazakhstan that I’ve watched is the really amazing and heartbreaking Welcome to the USA when it premiered at AFI Fest 2019 before going on to play film festivals worldwide. I haven’t watched many movies from Kazakhstan so I wasn’t sure of the style or production quality. I had no idea what to expect from Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It. However, all you really need to know is that this film works really well. A feast of colorful photography and captivating, idiosyncratic characters, the tough and tender Sweetie heralded the emergence of this gifted director, as well as a renaissance of Australian cinema, which would take the film world by storm in the nineties. Just like I wasn’t familiar with any of the other cast or crew members working on this film. Yernar Nurgaliyev is the director, editor, and co-writer of Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It (org. Watch Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It when you get the chance! Though she went on to create a string of brilliant films, Jane Campion will always be remembered for her stunning debut feature. One day, her sister Dawn ( Genevieve Lemon) arrives with her so-called manager, Bob. Thin and mousy Kay ( Karen Colson) works in a factory and lives a dreary existence with her well-meaning boyfriend, Louis ( Tom Lycos ). It does, however, surprise and entertain far more than I had ever expected. New Zealand-born filmmaker Jane Campion directs the darkly humorous family drama Sweetie. Our review of the action, thriller, comedy hybrid The Hunt here >Īgain, not a country I would expect to deliver awesome horror-comedy, but there you go! Now, this new movie doesn’t reach that level of genius. With elements of The Loved Ones and a touch of The Hunt, the characters these three friends encounter are pretty damn wacky! During the beginning of Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It, I even found myself thinking of the amazing One Cut of the Dead from Japan. Of course, this is when everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. None of them have gone fishing before, but that isn’t the point. In order to maintain some form of sanity, he decides to go fishing with his two best friends. In this film, our main protagonist is being constantly attacked by his very pregnant wife and trying his best to be a good husband. Of course, it isn’t just film that has a universal language but rather the stories told on film. For an option on the Park Lane hardtop coupe and convertible models, the sedan and convertible introduced "yacht deck paneling" body trim which was essentially the same simulated woodgrain DI-NOC used for the Colony Park station wagon "yacht deck paneling" was a rarely ordered option. įor 1967, to complement the Mercury Marquis, which was only available as a two-door hardtop, the Park Lane Brougham was introduced as an exclusive trim package of the already luxurious Park Lane on the sedan only. The retractable rear window was no longer available on the hardtop body and were now only available on the sedan body style across all Mercury vehicles. The front grille continued to offer twin headlights in a recessed part of the grille. įor 1965, the chassis of full-sized Ford and Mercury cars were redesigned the Mercury line was given a much more slab-sided appearance due to the popularity of the 1965 Lincoln Continental. The Mercury Colony Park station wagon was now aligned with the Park Lane model line. In addition, Mercury offered the Park Lane with a fastback roofline as part of Marauder option package (seen on any full-sized Mercury) the fastback design proved popular on its Ford Galaxie 500 counterpart. For 1964 the retractable rear window was installed in hardtop sedans with a reverse-slant configuration as in previous versions. Īs the highest-priced, premium trim, many Park Lanes were fitted with the option of a "breezeway" retractable rear window that was first used on the Turnpike Cruiser and the 1958-1960 Continental. The listed retail price for the four-door hardtop or four-door hardtop fastback was US$3,413 ($29,820 in 2021 dollars ) and a combined total of 6,060 were sold. In contrast to the previous generation, the Park Lane used the same wheelbase as other Mercury lines, differing primarily in trim. Coinciding with Mercury's 25th Anniversary, the Park Lane again topped the Mercury line above the Monterey and newly reintroduced Montclair. Pico Rivera, California ( Los Angeles Assembly)įor the 1964 model year, the Mercury Park Lane made its return as the Mercury Division expanded its model line. In 1961, the Park Lane name was dropped (along with the Montclair) as the division reorganized its marketing efforts towards the better-selling Monterey alongside the introduction of the Mercury Comet compact. All Park Lanes were equipped with a three-speed Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission the 1958 offered the "Multi-Matic" transmission controls and was changed to the steering column mounted gear selector starting in 1959.įor 1960, the Park Lane had a minor styling update distinguished by new taillamps, rear fender skirts, five chrome-accent bars ahead of the rear wheel openings, wide rocker panel moldings, and a padded dashboard. For 1959, the Super Marauder was discontinued, with the standard engine rated at 345 hp, retuned to 310 hp in 1960. Initially rated at 360 hp for 1958, the Super Marauder engine option package allowed any Mercury with the 430 to increase its output to 400 hp (the first mass-production engine in an American automobile to be so rated). The Park Lane was powered by a single engine: a 430 cubic-inch Ford MEL V8. For 1960, the Park Lane wheelbase was again changed, matching the 126 inches of the standard Mercury line. In 1959, the Park Lane wheelbase was stretched to 128 inches (two inches longer than other Mercurys). Sharing its chassis with the Colony Park station wagon (and Edsel Citation/Corsair), the Park Lane had a 125-inch wheelbase (3 inches longer than the standard Mercury chassis). As before, the Park Lane was a body on frame chassis while the Thunderbird had unibody construction. The Park Lane was offered as the flagship Mercury model line with a similar approach to luxury shared with the updated four passenger Ford Thunderbird with a listed retail price of US$3,867 for the coupe ($36,319 in 2021 dollars ) and US$4,118 for the convertible ($38,677 in 2021 dollars ). Available in two-door and four-door hardtops and two-door convertibles, the Park Lane offered the same body styles as the Turnpike Cruiser which it replaced, though its distinctive "breezeway" rear window was adopted by the Continental Mark line. In design, it was conceptualized as a Super Mercury that would compete with General Motors' Buick Super and Chrysler 300D. The Mercury Park Lane was introduced for the 1958 model year as a premium model line for the division. 1959 Mercury Park Lane two-door hardtop cruiser Recipe from Chasing Chiles: Hot Spots Along the Pepper Trail by Kurt Michael Friese, Kraig Kraft and Gary Paul Nabhan, Chelsea Green Publishing, March 2011. If it is unavailable, you might substitute less authentic (but still delicious) spinach leaves. It is often referred to as pigweed, and is quite tasty and nutritious. **And about the amaranth: The leaves are a common vegetable throughout many parts of Africa, Asia and Central and South America. The boiled option often produces a certain mucilaginous texture many people find objectionable, so my preference is grilled. Place on a plate and keep it covered while making the recipe. Wash them thoroughly and boil or grill them for any number of uses. Machaca Recipe Step By Step Generously season the meat with salt on both sides. Spring and summer are the common harvest times, so look for them then. It is widely available in bodegas and should be obtained as fresh as possible. Place the roasting pan directly on the grill grates. *A note about nopales –the leaves or pads of the genus Opuntia from the Cactaceae family, or what is commonly known as the prickly pear cactus. Adjust the heat level to your tastes by adding or omitting as many as you wish. Saguaros Mexican Food invites you to taste a variety of our finest traditional Mexican cuisine. With special planning we can cater a variety of events with: birthday parties, family reunions, business meetings. Gary's fondness for this dish of his adopted homeland, which he affectionately refers to as "The Stinkin' Hot Desert," mandates its inclusion here, but it would have been necessary anyway for its foundational use of the cherished chiltepin in two forms–dry and red as well as fresh and green. Gloria and Hector Castañeda have the pleasure to invite you to Saguaros Mexican Food, home of traditional Mexican food. For purposes such as the recipe below, it is widely available pre-shredded. It retains its popularity for similar uses to this day. My grandpa used to call it "cowboy meat" due to its ubiquitous presence in saddlebags in the Old West. It is, in essence, what Americans would call jerky. It utilizes machaca, a form of dried beef brisket popular in the Sonoran Desert of north-central Mexico and southern Arizona. This recipe is, in a sense, a more rustic (and genuine) version of the fajitas popularized in modern chain restaurants across the United States. Of course, drying meat had already long been a practice in these same cultures combining the two strategies must have seemed what we now refer to as a no-brainer. One of the reasons chiles gained popularity around the globe so quickly after being brought to the Old World from the New is their usefulness as a preservative for meat. Serve with flour tortillas and a side of pinto or tepary beans. Machaca is a traditional dish from northwest of Mexico, made of shredded dried beef and salt. Taste for salt, although usually the dried meat provides plenty. Add the oregano, grilled nopales, amaranth leaves, onion, garlic and cilantro, stirring until the onion is browned.Īdd the tomatillos and soaked meat and continue to cook, stirring, for another 5 minutes or until the tomatillos have softened. Heat the oil in a sauté pan over medium heat and sauté the green chiltepines, being careful about the fumes, which can burn or choke you if directly inhaled. He shot over 50 percent in each of his first nine NBA seasons, was selected for 11 All-Star Games (winning MVP honors in 1991) and earned all-league honors five times. When Charles leans on you, it's like being crushed by a trash compactor. He said frequently that he had no regrets for anything he said or did, except for a 1991 night in New Jersey when he spit at a heckling fan and missed, hitting a little girl. "I don't think of myself as giving interviews," said the 1993 NBA Most Valuable Player. He once joked after a tough game that he felt like going home and beating his wife, and pickets from women's groups soon appeared outside the Spectrum. That same year, in his aptly named autobiography, "Outrageous," he cited the shortcomings of some league players, including teammates. In 1991, he suggested that the 76ers would retain Dave Hoppen because the club didn't want an all-black team, igniting a racial firestorm in Philadelphia. "That makes the game easier for me," he said, "because I'm always relaxed."īarkley's impulsive manner created waves, though the media and many fans liked his frankness and humor. In the NBA, Sir Charles frolicked with team mascots during timeouts, berated referees and chatted up cheerleaders. "I just, more or less, tend to eat all the time." "I really don't eat that much," said the 6-foot-4½ Round Mound of Rebound, whose playing weight fluctuated between 250 and 280 pounds in college. He blew kisses to opposing fans while at Auburn and grinned when they'd poke fun at his eating habits by delivering pizzas to the court. "He's an emotional player, and that emotion is what makes him great."īarkley, whose all-star career ended in 2000, rarely saw moderation as part of his game, or his life. "With Charles, you've just got to accept the whole package," said his Philadelphia 76ers coach, Jimmy Lynam. They learned to live with his outbursts that often led to technical fouls and fines. They marveled at his deft touch, his extraordinary rebounding skills - he averaged 10 or more rebounds a game in 15 of his 16 NBA seasons - and his clutch play. His coaches, for the most part, loved him. The wide-bodied forward left no room for middle ground.Ĭharles Barkley, chosen fifth in the 1984 draft by the 76ers, was named to the NBA all-rookie team.
